Sculpture

It's that time of the week again which means it is time for my Five On Friday post hosted by Amy at Love Made My Home. Do go and visit Amy's blog and follow the links to view more Five On Friday posts.

We visited Salisbury yesterday and as we wandered through the Cathedral Green we noticed some new additions - there were several pieces of sculpture with more in the process of being assembled.

We had no idea who designed these sculptures or what they were all about and there didn't seem to be any literature around to enlighten us. However, when I googled I found out that these form part of an exhibition which opens on 12th February and runs to 3rd July and are by Sophie Ryder and the title of the exhibition is Relationships.

On reading a bit more I found out that the sculptures explore Sophie's own relationships and family interactions and at the same time challenge us to consider how we interact with each other and our own loved ones. She uses the Hare headed female figures and Minotaur males to both portray these relationships but also to disguise them by concealing the identity of the figures in the sculptures.

I must say that I found them a bit odd but when I was looking at them I didn't have a clue as to what the sculptures were all about. Having googled it all makes more sense.

Shopping, a walk by the river and some culture!

After a very rainy start to the week the last two days have been gorgeous, lovely warm and sunny Autumn days and a joy to be out and about.

Today we drove to Salisbury for a spot of retail therapy and then a walk through the beautiful water meadows.

It was wonderful to leave the bustling city behind and enjoy the peace and quiet of the meadows. Who would imagine this peaceful riverside location is just a stones throw from the City Centre.

After a walk and a sit in the sun we ambled back along the river into the city for a spot of lunch and then decided to walk up to the Cathedral. I have visited here a few times before but never fail to be impressed by the sheer beauty of this building and admire the skill of those masons from years ago who created this beautiful structure with none of the modern power tools that are in use today.

We walked around the green and then through the cloisters. Can you spot the steeple jacks working on the spire dangling on the ropes, what a head for heights you must have to do that job - they were an awful long way up!

The Cathedral green and Close are such tranquil places to visit and it is hard to remember that you are not far away from the busy shopping streets.

All to soon it was time to head back to the carpark but I couldn't resist taking another couple of photos as we walked back.

Salisbury has so much history with so many lovely old buildings and a thriving shopping centre so a visit is always a pleasure, especially on such a lovely day as today.

A Visit To The City

We woke up to a wonderful sunny morning today and decided to visit Salisbury, the main purpose for this choice was to visit Lakeland so that I could buy some new kitchen paraphernalia to use in our new kitchen (when it is finally finished). We parked in the central carpark and walked into the city beside the river. Spotted a water vole but it was too quick for me and I didn't manage to get a photo. You will have to make do with a mallard and a moorhen instead!

Walking into the sun made taking photographs difficult so had to wait until we crossed the river to take a couple of views.

As we were passing a market greengrocer's stall I couldn't resist taking a photo of this box of peppers, the colours looked fantastic in the sunshine.

Once across the river we arrived at Lakeland where I am afraid I spent far too much money but am really pleased with my purchases and now cannot wait for to start using everything (only another couple of weeks). We struggled to carry the three very large and heavy carrier bags back to the car but made it eventually. There are still a few things I need to buy but they were out of stock so I feel an online order coming on.

After getting the main business of the trip out of the way we still had quite a lot of time left on the carpark ticket so decided to go for a walk by the river to the water meadows.

We will take another walk out to the water meadows in the summer and take a picnic with us as it was a lovely spot but too cold to sit for long today so we decided to motor out of Salisbury and enjoy a pub lunch on the way home.

I will be back with more "ramblings" soon.
